PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a marker (factor) capable of early discovery and progression prediction of atherosclerosis, because it induces cerebral infarction or myocardial infarction, and to provide a diagnosis or prediction method of atherosclerosis using the marker as an index, and an evaluation method of a prevention or treatment effect. SOLUTION: In the diagnosis or prediction method of atherosclerosis, CD 166 (ALCAM) in a sample collected from a test animal including human is detected.
