An input actuator for electrical switches of the type used on hand held tools, has a latching facility to eliminate the need for continuous hand pressure. A two position finger operated switch actuator (20) is pivoted (22) at the mid point on a bracket (21) attached to the switch housing (2). An actuating rod (8) is pinned to the actuator. The bracket has a projection (4) with a hook shaped projection (13) that prevents the switch from being operated when a bar (14), within the actuator head, is in contact. The bar is attached to a sliding button (12) within a slot (15) in the actuator, and is spring loaded into the inhibiting position. When the button is moved (19) the actuator pivots freely. The button may be released in the 'on' position to allow the hook profiles to latch against each other.
