The method involves applying an oxidizable medium (4) on a region of a packaging member (10) and an oxidizing agent (6) on another region of the packaging member, where the two regions overlap in a part. An intersection region is subjected with the oxidizable medium and the oxidizing agent. The regions are formed as regions of a wall of a container. A pre-set period of time is calculated between a process of applying the oxidizable medium and oxidizing agent. The oxidizable medium is selected from a group consisting of potassium permanganate and magenta. An independent claim is also included for an apparatus for a sterilization of a packaging member.
