PURPOSE: A pharmaceutical composition containing ginger extract or shogaol is provided to prevent or treat learning disorder or memory disorder. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for oral administration for preventing or treating learning disorder or memory disorder contains a compound of chemical formula 1 and pharmaceutically acceptable carrier thereof. A food composition for improving learning or memory contains the compound of chemical formula 1 as an active ingredient. The compound of chemical formula 1 is shogaol isolated from ginger extract. The ginger extract is an ethanol extract, n-hexane fraction, ethyl acetate fraction, butanol fraction, or water fraction.
