<p>Disclosed is a liquid crystal display device which has excellent gray scale inversion characteristics in a state wherein a color close to black is displayed. The liquid crystal display device is provided with: a first polarizer; a second polarizer disposed to face the first polarizer; a liquid crystal panel provided between the first polarizer and the second polarizer; and a first retardation plate and a second retardation plate provided between the first polarizer or the second polarizer and the liquid crystal display panel. The liquid crystal display panel has a pair of substrates disposed to face each other, and a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the pair of substrates, and the liquid crystal layer contains liquid crystal molecules which are homogeneously aligned. The first retardation plate includes a liquid crystal film, and the liquid crystal film is formed by fixing a nematic liquid crystal in a hybrid-aligned state. A specific phase difference, i.e., a phase difference in the direction of the thickness of a member between the first polarizer and the second polarizer, excluding the liquid crystal layer and the first retardation plate, is 120 nm or more.</p> |
