<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus configured such that a replacement timing for a process cartridge may be stably and precisely detected and stable image formation is attainable for a long period. <P>SOLUTION: A protruding portion 71b that protrudes further toward the process cartridge than a contact portion 74 coming into contact with a recording medium 70 is provided at a contact terminal 71. A slide contact surface portion 77 of the process cartridge is in a state of being in sliding contact with the protruding portion of the contact terminal 71 by action of inserting the process cartridge 6, and the protruding portion 71b is pressed in a direction being apart from the recording medium 70 to limit contact between the contact terminal 71 and the recording medium 70. The protruding portion 71b fits in a fitting concave portion 76 at a prescribed mounted position to make the contact terminal 71 come into contact with the recording medium 70.
