PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording apparatus which decreases loading at starting of running of a conveying belt. SOLUTION: An inkjet printer has a conveying mechanism 50 for conveying a paper. The conveying mechanism 50 includes a conveying belt 53, a suction platen 60 having a pair of comb teeth electrodes 62 and 63 and sucking the paper on the conveying belt 53 by loading an electric voltage between these electrodes 62 and 63, and a moving mechanism 70 for moving the suction platen 60 in the vertical direction. The moving mechanism 70 moves the suction platen 60 so that the separated distance between the conveying belt 53 and the suction platen 60 can selectively take a first distance when conveying while sucking the paper P, and a second distance being larger than the first distance.
