The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a metal connecting rod (6) that is longitudinally reinforced in the body thereof by a fibrous reinforcement (2), wherein said method comprises the following steps: making a metal blank comprising at least one longitudinal recess (11, 12) leading onto an end surface of the blank; inserting a fibrous reinforcement (2) into the recess; bonding the fibrous reinforcement to the blank by metal diffusion around the fibers of the fibrous reinforcement (2); finishing the blank in order to obtain a connecting rod (6); prearranging the fibrous reinforcement on a corner-shaped substrate; and inserting the corner provided with the corresponding fibrous reinforcement into the recess. The invention also relates to a connecting rod which can be obtained according to the method of the invention, and which comprises a metal matrix, in which reinforcing fibers are embedded, extending on either side of a longitudinal axis (X) of the connecting rod, the fibers leading onto an end surface of the connecting rod.
