PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for culturing cells which is capable of improving the proliferation efficiency of cells cultured in a liquid in a culturing container. SOLUTION: The apparatus for culturing cells includes detecting means 30 for detecting the density distribution of a cell group cultured in the liquid in the culturing container, agitating means 28 for agitating the cells in the culturing container by oscillating the culturing container, environment-regulating means 12 for regulating the environment of the culturing container during a detecting time and an agitating time to a previously set environment, and action-regulating means 81 for setting the patterns of the oscillation by the agitating means based on the density distribution detected by the detecting means.
