PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for spot welding, capable of suppressing an impression in a weld part or a deformation of a base material in the surrounding of the weld part. SOLUTION: Since a spot welding apparatus 1 is provided with a narrowed section 14 in an electrode 2, an energization region of an electric current is narrowed by the narrowed section 14, so that a nugget diameter L1 of a weld part W is made smaller than an electric diameter L2. Therefore, the spot welding apparatus 1 forms the weld part W while pressurizing a sufficient area that includes the weld part W and the surrounding thereof with a pressing part 12 in times of energization. Accordingly, when forming the weld part W by using the spot welding apparatus 1, the dent amount of an impression in the weld part W and the deformation of outer plates 4, 5 in the surrounding of the weld part W are suppressed. A stainless steel car assembled by using the joined body of the outer plates 4, 5 has such an impression and a distortion as to be inconspicuous and has an excellent appearance.
