A valve gear of an internal combustion engine comprises a decompression cam member (47) supported by a cam shaft (26) and operating an exhaust valve operating member (29e) in the opening direction of an exhaust valve (17e) in the compression stroke when an engine is started, an exhaust gas recirculation cam member (48) supported by the cam shaft (26) and operating the exhaust valve operating member (29e) in the opening direction of the exhaust valve (17e) in the intake stroke during high speed operation of the engine, and a centrifugal mechanism (46) fixed to a driven timing rotary member (32) rotating integrally with a valve cam (25) and operating the decompression cam member (47) and the exhaust gas recirculation cam member (48), wherein the valve cam (25) is provided with a recess (39) which opens to the other side surface of the driven timing rotary member (32) and the base surface of the valve cam (25) while surrounding the cam shaft (26), and the decompression cam member (47) and the exhaust gas recirculation cam member (48) are housed in the recess (39). Consequently, a valve gear of an internal combustion engine which can be configured compactly regardless of installation of a driven timing rotary member and an exhaust cam can be provided. |
