<p>A discrete sacrificial zinc anode is fabricated from one or more slotted and slatted metal plates. The plates are fixed in a parallel planar configuration using conventional fasteners. One or more electrical connection wires are formed with a looped portion for spacing the anode assembly a predetermined distance from a steel reinforcing member.</p>
