A two-stroke I.C. engine comprises one or more crank-case induction passages opened and closed by a rotary valve comprising a stator having one or more passageways therethrough, the or each induction passage having a stator passageway aligned therewith, and a rotor rotatable about the stator and having openings and solid faces adapted to uncover the or each stator passageway. A twostroke engine having air-cooled cylinders 1, 2, 3, 4 comprises a rotary inlet valve having a rotary sleeve 24 formed with four pairs of diametrically opposed circular or rectangular holes 48 co-operating with corresponding transverse bores 47 formed in a stationary core 23. A carburetter 20 is provided for each cylinder. The sleeve 24 is rotated from the crank-shaft 8 through chains, gears or a rubber toothed belt 46 and is supported by bearings 35, 26, the latter being carried by the core 23. The core 23 is secured at one end to the cylinder block by a nut 32 on a threshold shank 29, and at the other end is supported by the rotor 24 through a bearing 37. The cylinders may fire in pairs or separately.</p> |
