1,222,046. Coating with metals. MACDERMID Inc. Aug. 19, 1969 [Dec. 2, 1968], No.41403/69. Heading C7F. In a process of plating plastics articles by first forming a Ni or Cu electro-less coating and then electro-plating Ni or Cr, in which the articles are carried by racks sheathed in plastics, the racks are immersed in an aqueous solution containing hexavalent chromium to prevent electro-less plating on the plastics sheaths. The electro-less plating may be conventional using activating and sensitizing palladium and stannous chloride solutions and copper sulphate, formaldehyde, triethomolamine or nickel chloride, aminocetic acid, sodium hydroxide, sodium hypophosphate solutions. Examples are described of plating nylon, polystyrene, polysulphone, A.B.S., and polypropylene articles on p.v.c. plastisol sheathed racks or A.B.S. articles on polypropylene sheaths. The plastics articles may be etched before plating in a 14% wt. chromic and 40% sulphuric acid solution.
|
