PURPOSE: A lignan from Schisandra chinensis seeds and an extraction method are provided to obtain a large amount of lignan. CONSTITUTION: A lignan and Schisandra chinensis extract containing the same is prepared by extracting Schisandra chinensis seeds with hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate, methanol or 30-100% of ethanol solvent. The lignan is gomisin N, schisandrin, schisandrin C, or gomisin A. The schisandrin C is obtained Schisandra chinensis seeds with hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate, methanol, or 60-100% of ethanol. The gomisin N is obtained by extracting Schisandra chinensis seeds with hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate, methanol, or 60-100% of ethanol.
