1339450 Reactions of peroxides with strong acids; alcohols with per-acids SUN OIL CO 13 July 1971 [13 July 1970 14 Dec 1970] 32791/71 Heading C2C Ketones, aldehydes and alcohols, in admixture are obtained either by contacting a sec. or tert. aliphatic-peroxide or hydroperoxide with aqueous HCl, H 2 SO 4 , oleum, H 2 S 2 O 8 , a mixture of H 2 SO 4 and H 2 S 2 O 8 , HClO 4 , HFSO 3 or an acid treated molecular sieve having a concentration of at least 75 weight per cent or by contacting a sec. or tert. aliphatic alcohol with a peracid having a concentration of at least 75 weight per cent. In the latter process, carboxylic acids are formed in the presence of excess per-acids. The alcohols may be formed as their acid esters. |
