The device i.e. speed display (1), has multiple segments (3) individually illuminated. A full display region (5) is represented by illuminating predetermined number of the segments with illumination intensity based on a value and the remaining segments with another illumination intensity, where the latter illumination intensity is smaller than the former illumination intensity. Multiple light wells are provided for the segments, where the value represents a tank filling level or a temperature level of a vehicle. An independent claim is also included for a method for representing a value in a vehicle.
