PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for discriminating an electric motor vehicle in a parking facility, which can surely discriminate whether a vehicle entering into the parking system is an electric motor vehicle or an engine-mounted motor vehicle without relying on the person's determination, thereby enabling efficient charge to the electric motor vehicle. SOLUTION: A vehicle entry detection area A is formed at the entrance of the parking facility P having storage places equipped with a charger. When a vehicle C enters the vehicle entry detection area A, a temperature distribution in the rear part of the vehicle C is measured and digitized by a thermosensitive means 12. It is determined whether a high temperature part whose temperature is equal to or higher than a set value is partially detected in the heat distribution at the rear part of the vehicle C or not. When the high temperature part is detected partially, the vehicle C is discriminated as an engine-mounted motor vehicle having an exhaust port, and when the high temperature part is not partially detected, the vehicle C is discriminated as an electric motor vehicle having no exhaust port.
