PURPOSE: To provide an improved liquid developing device and method for a high speed copying machine having a moving image pickup carrier belt. CONSTITUTION: This device is provided with a moving belt-applicator 22 mounted on driving parts including a low crosswise force roll 20 provided with at least one or more driving roll 18 and a position guide. The belt-applicator 22 is attached to be slightly away from the image pickup carrier belt 14 in order to form a developing zone 11 having a uniform gap over an extension distance. The driving roll 18 for the applicator and the low crosswise force roll 20, mounted so as to move the belt-applicator 22 in the same direction 39 with the image pickup carrier belt 14 or inversely, is severally driven at fast speed in order to uniformly distribute a flow of the developer, and to prevent toner particles from running out in the developer passing through a developing zone. An air knife 47 adopts a blade-clear 38, in order to remove the excessive developer form the image pickup developed on the image pickup belt 14, and to clean the belt-applicator 22 after it passes through the developing zone 11. |
