The invention comprises compounds of the formula wherein R is 8-hydroxy-6-sulpho-2-naphthyl, 5 - hydroxy - 7 - sulpho - 2 - naphthyl, 8- hydroxy - 4 - sulpho - 1 - naphthyl, 6,8 - disulpho - 2 - naphthyl, 5,7 - disulpho - 2 - naphthyl, 8 - amino - 4,6 - disulpho - 1 - naphthyl, 6 - sulpho - 2 - naphthyl, 8 - sulpho - 2 - naphthyl, 5 - sulpho - 2 - naphthyl, 8 - hydroxy- 4,6 - disulpho - 1 - naphthyl, 8 - amino - 5,7- disulpho - 1 - naphthyl, 7 - sulpho - 2 - naphthyl, 4 - sulpho - 1 - naphthyl, or the Na or K salts of said naphthyl radicals; X is phenylene, ethylene, propylene, m-tolylene, where the -CH 2 - is bonded to SSO 3 Z, chlorophenylene, where Cl is o to SSO 3 Z, methoxyphenylene where OCH3 is m to SSO 3 Z, where a methylene is bonded to SSO 3 Z or where a methylene is bonded to SSO 3 Z; and Z is H, Na or K. They may be obtained by reacting equimolar proportions of H 2 N-XSSO 3 Na and the appropriate naphnaphthalene sulphonic acid or its Na or K salt in aqueous solution for 12-60 hours at 60- 105‹ C. at pH 6.2 together with 3À5-7 molecular proportions of NaHSO 3 per molecular proportion of H 2 N-X-SSO 3 Na and about 0À11 molecular proportions of Na 2 CO 3 or about 0À22 molecular proportions of NaOH per molecular proportion of NaHSO 3 ; cooling the composition to 0-25‹ C., adding thereto a non-oxidizing mineral acid until about pH 3 is reached; evacuating all SO 2 gas at 0-25‹ C. and collecting the product. Examples are given for the production of the compounds. They are useful as intermediates for dyes. |
