PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power supply device for a vehicle that can easily detect a decrease in an ability to start an engine by connecting an electric double layer capacitor with a battery in parallel. SOLUTION: The power supply device for the vehicle is configured so that a drive of a starter 8 for starting an engine 1 is assisted by an electric double layer capacitor 3 connected with a battery 7 in parallel. A capacity of the electric double layer capacitor 3 is smaller than a capacity for starting an engine 1 alone. The power supply device includes a voltage detection means 4 for detecting voltages of the battery 7 at driving of the starter 8 in chronological order, a time detection means 5 for comparing voltage levels detected by the voltage detection means 4 to detect time between a start of the detection and a detection of a minimum voltage, a means 5 for determining whether the time detected by the time detection means 5 is not less than a predetermined time period, and a means 6 for informing of an over discharge of the battery 7 when it is determined that the time detected is not less than the predetermined time.
