<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device material for a hole injection/transport layer which is capable of forming a hole injection/transport layer by a solution coating method while changing wettability by energy irradiation and having high processing resistance and excellent hole injection/transport properties, an ink for a hole injection/transport layer which uses the device material, a device which has a long life and allows patterning of a layer laminated on a hole injection/transport layer, and a method for manufacturing the device. <P>SOLUTION: The device material for a hole injection/transport layer is configured as follows. A fluorine-containing organic compound adheres to the surfaces of transition metal-containing nanoparticles or transition metal-containing nanoclusters that contain at least a transition metal oxide.
