<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ingestible gastrointestinal capsule for mechanically stimulating a gastrointestinal wall by repeatedly pressurizing and vibrating it. <P>SOLUTION: The gastrointestinal capsule 10 is activated after a lapse of a set time. The activated gastrointestinal capsule violently trembles and/or carries out an expansion and contraction motion so as to mechanically stimulate the adjacent portion of the gastrointestinal wall. The activation of the gastrointestinal capsule includes a number of partial activations automatically performed, for example, when the elapsed time of the gastrointestinal capsule becomes equal to a set delay time, when a surrounding pH reaches a set level, and when temperature reaches a set threshold value. Rocking is performed by a rocking means which is equipped in the gastrointestinal capsule. Such the rocking means includes an unbalanced weight attached to an axis 12 of an electric motor, an actuator like an electromagnet 18, an electro active polymer, and a dielectric elastomer actuator, which are provided in the gastrointestinal capsule. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
