PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultrasonic diagnostic device capable of obtaining signals the noise of which has been reduced and accurately diagnosing the number and positions of defects within a specimen, and to provide the ultrasonic diagnostic device capable of diagnosing defects existing within the specimen over a wide range. SOLUTION: The ultrasonic diagnostic device is provided for detecting defects within a specimen. The ultrasonic diagnostic device includes a signal generation section 3 for generating chirp waves, a compression processing section 5 for performing compression processing to the chirp waves to output chirp wave compression signals, and a probe 11 for generating SH waves based on the chirp wave compression signals for propagating into the specimen.
