PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the standing stability and film formability of the resulting anionic or amphoteric polymeric emulsifier. SOLUTION: In an aqueous dispersion of a thermoplastic resin produced by dispersing a thermoplastic resin in water using a polymeric emulsifier, the aqueous dispersion having a dispersed particle size of 0.01-2μm and using the polymeric emulsifier produced by neutralizing a polymer having an anionic group with an organic basic substance having a boiling point of not less than 60°C and not more than 370°C is used.
