PURPOSE: A system and a method for recognizing obstacles for parking is provided to reduce recognition errors because the position of an object is confirmed using data sensed from two rear ultrasonic sensors. CONSTITUTION: A system for recognizing obstacles for parking comprises side and rear ultrasonic sensors(102,104), first and second route calculation units, and a controller. The side ultrasonic sensors sense side distance data between a side obstacle and a vehicle. The front route calculation unit calculates side position data and a first route by receiving the side distance data. The rear ultrasonic sensors sense rear distance data between the vehicle and a rear obstacle. The second route calculation unit extracts a final target parking position by receiving the rear distance data and extracting rear position data and calculates a final route. The controller controls a steering wheel.
