<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a card reader device which has high operability in swipe operation, and which is easily made compact, and which has high durability (impact resistance) against the impact of falling. <P>SOLUTION: The card reader device 1 is provided with: a display part 3 provided at the upper half part of a device body 2; a code reader part 6 and a card reader part 7 provided at the upper half part of the device body 2 on the side opposite to the display part 3; and a grip part 5 provided at the lower half part of the device body 2. The thickness D1 a part of the device body 2 where the code reader part 6 is formed is set larger than the thickness D2 of a part of the device body 2 where the grip part 5 is formed.
