<p>The jaws are fixed against rotation by radial slots and have outer bearing faces mating with the conically tapered inside face of a clamping drum which is moved axially to apply clamping force to the jaws in a radial direction. A rotating tube within the body of the chuck supplies the control force via a prestressed helical spring to a sliding inner tube, joined by pins and slots to the clamping drum so that rotation of the control tube produces the required axial movement of the clamping drum with the necessary compensation for friction and backlash provided by the spring. Compact, reliable chuck which does not damage the sheath.</p> |
