1276486 Bedstead adjustments; tables H S WRIGHT 6 April 1971 8855/71 Headings A4H and A4J A bed, overbed table, or other adjustable piece of hospital equipment has adjusting means comprising two vertical racks, connected to opposite sides of the adjustable body, engaged by pinions fixed to a common shaft, so that there is no force tending to twist the body, and a latch engaging one of the pinions to hold the body in an adjusted position. In the form shown, a bed frame 1 has connected to it two guide-members 12 in which slide racks 11 attached to the base 13 of the bedstead. The racks are formed of squaresection tube with indentations or perforations with which mesh pinions 16 fixed to a common shaft 17 journalled in the members 12. One of the members 12 carries a spring latch 18 with a hole arranged to engage two teeth of the pinion 16 to hold the frame 10 in an adjusted position; a pivoted control lever 23 can be actuated by a cable 25 to move the latch out of engagement with the pinion to allow adjustment of the frame. The latch and pinion teeth may be so shaped as to provide a ratchet action for upward movement of the frame so that release of the latch is not required for this movement. Similar adjusting mechanisms may be applied to drop sides of a bed Fig. 5 (not shown) or to height adjustment of an overbed table; this equipment may be additional to that shown in Fig. 1. |
