PURPOSE: A rechargeable battery is provided to generate a small amount of heat in short circuit due to relatively small electric resistance, to rapidly consume the energy of a battery, and to improve the safety and reliability of the secondary battery. CONSTITUTION: A rechargeable battery comprises: an electrode assembly(110) including a first electrode, a second electrode(112), and a separator between the first and second electrodes; a case accommodating the electrode assembly; a cap plate combined in the case; and a short circuit member(160) which is electrically connected to the first electrode and winds the electrode assembly.
