Provided is a contaminant sealing device wherein even if the pressure of sealed liquid rises, the pressing force in a sliding section does not increase proportionally, with the result that the amount of friction change in the sliding section can be reduced with respect to the change in the pressure of the sealed liquid. The aforementioned contaminant sealing device is provided with a ring-shaped gasket for reciprocal movements or rotational movements which is installed in one of two members facing each other and which is slidably in close contact with the other of the aforementioned two members. The contaminant sealing device is characterized in that the cross-sectional shape of the ring-shaped gasket is approximately y-shaped, that the ring-shaped gasket is disposed in such a way as to cause the approximately y-shaped dorsal section to face the high pressure side, and that high pressure side liquid acts on a space formed by the approximately y-shaped dorsal section and the two members facing each other. |
