Amfotericin B (I), a macrolide antibiotic used for treating mycosis, is separated and purified by treating a soln. of impure (I) in DMF with a amt. of dist. H2O ca 1/2 that of the DMF, acidifying the mixt. to pH 2-3.6 (pref. with 10% HCl), separating the ppted. impurities, adding an amt. of H2O similar to that of the solvent, adjusting the pH to 6.5-7.0/pref. with 10% NaOH soln.) washing with aqs. n-propanol (pref. 50% conc.) and acetone and drying. The product has a specific activity of >750 mu g/mg. and an ash content of 0.5%.
