<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for updating firmware through a broadcast network capable of reducing memory consumption and writing time for a firmware update target device and reducing the size of distributed update data. <P>SOLUTION: An update data generation device is provided with: a means for extracting differences (j-1→j differences) between firmware version j-i and firmware version i for j=2 to N and distributing the extracted differences all together through a broadcast network, provided that the latest firmware version is assumed to be N; and a firmware update target device provided with the firmware version i is provided with a means for storing only those differences satisfying i<j among the distributed j-1→j differences (2≤j≤N) in a storage area, generating i→N differences from the stored j-1→j differences (i≤j≤N), and updating the firmware in a flash memory based on the content of i→N differences. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT</p> |
