A sealing device allowing the passage of a moving wire or strip from one treatment chamber (I) to another (II), has a sealing fluid e.g. Hg contg. receptacle (III) with capillary tube inlet (IV) and outlet (V) extending from (III). Sealing fluid level is above (IV) and (V), and (III) is fluid-tightly connected to (I) and (II).
