Method for determining driving time and navigation system

The method involves transmitting data between a navigation system and a digital tachograph present in a commercial vehicle. A steering and/or idle time is considered for determining a travel time by the navigation system. The travel time is determined based on a sum of a driving time and an idle time. The steering and/or idle time is manually entered in an input unit of the navigation system.
