Device management

A method for managing communication in a system comprising a device 110 in communication with a server 120 via a communication path comprising a gateway 140 is provided. A communication session is initiated by transmitting a request signal from the device to the gateway, the signal is then routed through the gateway and the signal is then transmitted from the gateway to the server. The system may further comprise a second server and a repository and the device type for the device may be determined from the request signal and the server to which the request should be routed may be determined by the gateway by interrogating the repository, which may be located within the gateway. The gateway may also perform translation of signals between the client and server. The system may be used for interoperability testing of devices in the network and the server(s) may be responsible for managing/controlling the devices in the network.
