Disclosed is a method for the treatment of wood, in which a treatment composition and wood are brought into a contact with each other and the treatment composition contains formate salt characterized in that the treatment composition used is a composition which contains 1) the formate salt together with 2) sorbate salt and/or benzoate salt dissolved in an aqueous liquid carrier. Also disclosed is a wood material treated by said method.
