PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a driver from uncomfortably feeling an appropriate vehicle behavior according to an obstacle. SOLUTION: A travel safety device 10 of a vehicle includes a determining part 33 of existence of a traveling direction obstacle for determining whether the obstacle detected by an obstacle detection part 32 exists in the traveling direction when one's own vehicle starts, an obstacle recognizing/determining part 34 for determining whether the driver of the own vehicle has recognized the obstacle, a start control part 35 that regulates the start of the own vehicle before obstacle recognizing/determining part 34 determines that the driver of the own vehicle has recognized the obstacle, and permits the start of the own vehicle after it is determined that the driver of the own vehicle has recognized the obstacle, and an acceleration control part 36 that suppresses the acceleration of the own vehicle when the determining part 33 of existence of the traveling direction determines that the obstacle exists in the traveling direction, and accelerates the own vehicle according to a request of the driver when it is determined that no obstacle exists in the traveling direction, when the start of the own vehicle is permitted by the start control part 35.
