<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus efficiently executing a judgement of PDL class of printing data on which compression processing is carried out, a method for controlling the image processing apparatus, and a computer program. <P>SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus 1 receives printing data and judges whether or not the printing data received are a compressed form. When the image processing apparatus 1 judges that the printing data are the compressed form, the kind of a page description language of the printing data is judged without applying decompression processing to the printing data.
