PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document processing apparatus, a document processing method, and a document processing program for extracting an index area highly precisely by distinguishing a text in drawing from a text with background. SOLUTION: The document processing apparatus 1 specifies a text area and a non-text area from among document images (Steps S4-S8) and detects the text area being superposed on the non-text area from the specified text area as a superposed text area (Step S10). The document processing apparatus 1 computes degree of background indicating degree being background graphic concerning the area where the superposed text areas are superposed in the non-text area (Step S12) and detects the text in drawing for removing it from candidates for the index area from among the superposed text areas based on the result of computation of the degree of background (Step S14).
