<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect the deflection of a feed sheet by emitting ultrasonic wave to the sheet during the feeding. <P>SOLUTION: A sheet feed path 27 is used to feed sheets. A transmitting/receiving part 29 is disposed on both sides of the sheet feed path 27, diagonally emits ultrasonic wave to the sheet feed path 27, receives the ultrasonic wave passing through the sheet in the feed path, and outputs a receiver signal according to the receiver level.
