PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pneumatic tire preventing a sealant liquid from flowing toward the tire center to be maldistributed, and exerting excellent flat tire preventing performance even when a large centrifugal force is applied in high speed traveling and the like; and also to provide a method for manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: In the pneumatic tire provided with an adhesive sealant layer on the surface of an inner liner inside the tire corresponding to a tread, the inner liner 4 is formed of a composition with a principal component of a thermoplastic resin, a sealant cover layer 7 formed of a composition with a principal component of a thermoplastic resin is arranged on the inside of the sealant layer 5, and the gap between the sealant cover layer and the inner liner is welded continuously or intermittently in the tire circumferential direction at least in right and left shoulder regions.
