<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for storing and managing respective files stored and managed in multi-level directories with a smaller amount of information and further increasing data access speed of the files. <P>SOLUTION: When an external recording medium 108 is set to a recording medium drive 106, a CPU 101 accesses the recording medium 108 via the recording medium drive 106 and follows the directories according to a file system of the recording medium to detect a file. Then an absolute address position of the detected file in the recording medium is detected, and a character string consisting of a predetermined number of characters and having one-to-one relation with the information representing the detected absolute address position is generated in a predetermined format.
