PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recording apparatus capable of stably discharging further fine droplets at a high drive frequency. SOLUTION: The ink jet recording apparatus discharges ink droplets from a nozzle by activating a pressure generation means by applying a drive signal. A drive pulse in the cycle of one pixel includes a first expanding pulse for expanding the volume of a pressure chamber in the order of time sequence, a contracting pulse for contracting the volume of the pressure chamber, and a second expanding pulse for expanding the volume of the pressure chamber again. The pulse width of the contracting pulse is 0.1 AL or more and 0.5 AL or less (AL is 1/2 of the acoustic resonance cycle of the pressure chamber). When the drive voltage of the first expanding pulse is represented by Von and the drive voltage of the contracting pulse is represented by Voff, ¾Von¾/¾Voff¾ is 1.3 or more and 10 or less.
