PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for screening a medicament usable for the maintenance or repair of a nerve cell. SOLUTION: The method for identifying the medicament usable for the maintenance or repair of the nerve cell includes a step for measuring the expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in the presence of a candidate medicament in a glia cell. By the method, the candidate medicament is decided to be effective as the medicament to be used for the maintenance or protection of the nerve cell when the expression of the BDNF is accelerated. The medicament is expected to be used for the protection or repair of nerve cell lesion after cerebral ischemia, and the treatment of various kinds of neurodegeneration diseases, normal intraocular pressure glaucoma or the like.
