PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce costs and power consumption of a remote controller, assign many control function to the remote controller, and to improve ease of operation thereof. SOLUTION: A remote control system has an image display device, and the remote controller which performs remote control of the image display device. The remote controller has a touch panel which is transparent and has a first display area, and a transmission unit which transmits coordinate information showing an x-coordinate and a y-coordinate of a point by which the touch panel is touched to the image display device. The image display device has a second display area for displaying a picture for operation, and a performance part which performs a function corresponding to the coordinate information.
