A measuring apparatus for use in a sawing table that is equipped with a sliding stopper device for simple and accurate cutting of material. The measuring apparatus comprises a ruler attached to the sawing table; a camera attached to the sliding stopper device and imaging the ruler; and a display unit. The display unit comprises a display area showing the part of ruler that is imaged by the camera. The display unit also comprises a sliding bar with at least one movable pointing element that can slide on along the sliding bar and is capable of pointing to a location on said display area.
