PURPOSE: A vehicle number recognition security CCTV system and a method for operating the same are provided to reduce the number of cameras for photographing the car in the security section. CONSTITUTION: A system control unit(1110) controls a total operation of a terminal server(1100) and an overall operation of a vehicle number recognition crime prevention system(1000). A camera control unit(1120) generates a control signal of a camera unit(1220). A motion sensing unit(1130) senses the existence of motion in an image. A number plate sensing unit(1140) senses the existence of a number plate of a car in the image. A number recognition unit(1150) recognizes the number of corresponding plate. Based on a number plate sensing result and a number recognition result, a storage and management unit(1160) stores the image in a database unit(1170).
