<p>PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for encoding/decoding an image by accurately controlling a motion vector are provided to encode an image by compensating motion depending on a prediction result. CONSTITUTION: A method and an apparatus for encoding/decoding an image by accurately controlling a motion vector comprises the steps of: determining the accuracy of a motion vector used in the prediction of a current encoding unit(1210); estimating the motion vector of the current encoding unit according to the accuracy of the determined motion vector(1220); compensating the motion of the current encoding unit by using the estimated motion vector(1230); and encoding the current encoding unit based on the motion compensation result(1240).</p>
