PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance attenuation effect on the sound pressure of exhaust gas in particular the low-frequency component of the same in a muffler muffling the sound of exhaust gas from an engine. SOLUTION: The muffler includes an inner cylinder 10 connected to an exhaust pipe 3 and a partition cylinder 17 provided in a housing 12 by dividing an expansion chamber 11. A group 22 of partition-cylinder small holes and a group 21 of inner-cylinder small holes are formed in the partition cylinder 17 and the inner cylinder 10. The group 22 of partition-cylinder small holes and the group 21 of inner-cylinder small holes are not overlapped each other in an axial direction and are separated from each other by a predetermined distance C in the axial direction.
